Online-Only Sessions
I am a digital nomad. Due to my travels across state and international lines, and for client consistency and convenience, I see clients exclusively online via private Zoom rooms per each session. I do not record sessions in any way; however, clients are welcome to use AI tools or other recording devices with my permission. I will always be in a private room, usually with several doors between me and anyone else, without interruption barring emergencies, and have a solid high speed internet connection. It is recommended that clients have the same for all sessions so they can truly feel comfortable speaking openly.
Due to arbitrary, archaic and problematic laws in Utah and the United States, my license allows me to see clients who are Utah residents (driver's license, permanent address, etc). I can see these clients from anywhere, but my clients must reside in the state of Utah. This does not mean we can't do a session if you're on vacation. It means you must be a resident of Utah.
I realize this is a frustrating one. I have chosen to run my practice strictly cash-pay only due to ethical and economical considerations. I do not believe an insurance company has the right nor privilege to stipulate what sort of care you receive, to limit that care, or to require a formal diagnosis. Further, I don't think they should dictate what I charge or how much of it gets back to me, and when. I have a rather uncommon approach to therapy and diagnosis, in that in all but the most unusual of circumstances, I see clients as having symptoms existing on a diagnostic spectrum, not having a disorder. I recognize this is an unpopular approach. I may not be a good fit for clients seeking a strong diagnosis or seeking to make ultimate sense of their experiences through this lens.
Because of the nature of my work as a solo practitioner, I am not equipped to support clients in any sort of emergency capacity whatsoever. Clients with severe symptoms are recommended to seek community mental health care local to them in agencies with extensive staff, more intensive programming, and on-call support. High functioning clients struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, inner conflict, difficult decisions, identity crisis and more, are often a good fit. Clients actively in acute suicidal, substance abuse, domestic violence, or other disrupting difficulties should seek more comprehensive support. Clients in crisis should seek appropriate help through local in-person or crisis line resources. Utah Crisis Line: 1-800-273-TALK
